Linzer tarts orignate from the Linzertorte, which is the oldest known tart recipe that were discovered back in an Autrian abbet in 1653. They say that an Austrian introduced it to America in 1856. When it was introduced here, it was introduced more as a shortbread sandwich cookie with some of sort of preserves or filling in the middle. These tarts are buttery and delicious.
